When I designed this, I didn’t want it to look like a heavy, traditional piece of needlework. I wanted it to feel like a quick, expressive watercolor illustration, just using thread instead of paint.
The secret to this embroidery wall art design is the breathing room. The flowers and leaves do not crowd the heart, they just naturally grow through it.
Leaving that empty space is what makes the whole piece feel so light and translucent. The asymmetrical layout makes it look like the plant was caught right in the middle of growing.
Combining those romantic, dusty pinks with olive greens and a sudden flash of orange creates a palette that is both incredibly soothing and full of life.

It acts like a very gentle, foundational sketch. We use the same stitch for the plant stems to keep the whole structure unified and elegant.
The Olive Green Leaves – Satin Stitch
To contrast with the airy flowers, we wanted the main leaves to look healthy, plump, and vibrant.
The Satin Stitch achieves this perfectly. By laying the threads tightly side-by-side until the entire leaf shape is covered, you create a surface that is incredibly rich in color and has a beautiful, silky sheen.
It gives the plants a wonderful sense of weight and vitality.
The Large Pink Flowers – Straight Stitch
We did something a little different for the main pink blooms. Instead of filling them in completely, which can make them look heavy, we used the Straight Stitch.
We arrange several Straight Stitches in a fan shape to create each individual petal. This technique is brilliant because it reduces the bulk of the flower.
It allows the fabric to show through just a bit, making the blossoms look incredibly light, airy, and as though they might flutter away in the breeze. It is a wonderfully relaxing technique to stitch.
