When I started sketching, I felt this strong impulse to keep things incredibly soft. I chose off-white embroidery floss that almost perfectly matches the color of the base fabric.
This subtle choice gives the whole piece a very understated elegance. It forces you to look closely at the actual three-dimensional form of the mushroom instead of just the colors.
The golden fern leaves and the plump little knots at the base aren’t just decorative. They represent the rich soil and the tiny spores that actually nurture life in the forest.
