Midnight Garden Woodland Fungi Digital Embroidery Pattern PDF

Close your eyes for a second. Imagine you are holding a tiny lantern, stepping into a secret woodland garden that only blooms at midnight. That is exactly the feeling we captured with this whimsical mushroom embroidery pattern.
We designed this piece to be stitched on a velvety, deep black background. Your bright threads act like the lantern light, illuminating a vibrant mushroom wonderland.
Some of the fungi sport fiery, ruby-red caps. Others unfurl elegant, fan-shaped umbrellas that look like they are glowing in the moonlight. Down at the base, we wove golden fern fronds, tiny pink buds, and little berries together.
It looks like a dazzling nebula made entirely of plants. It is a brilliant, dramatic project that proves how much vibrant beauty can bloom in the dark.

Finding Beauty in the Dark
We spend so much time chasing the light. We assume that things are only beautiful and full of vitality when the sun is shining on them. But lately, I’ve found myself completely captivated by the quiet allure of the night.
When it gets dark, your senses sharpen. The few colors you can see appear so much purer. I decided I wanted to use a piece of black fabric as my canvas for this design.
To me, that black background doesn’t represent emptiness or a void. It represents infinite possibility, like staring up into a deep night sky.
I wanted to cultivate the absolute brightest, most life-filled garden right in the middle of that darkness. I chose the brightest reds, the crispest whites, and the most dazzling golds I could find.
When I pulled that first bright stitch through the dark fabric, it didn’t feel like embroidery. It felt like I was lighting the first star in the sky. I hope you feel that same powerful joy as you watch these botanical hand embroidery patterns bloom under your needle.
Vintage Luxury for Your Living Room
Because this design uses such high-contrast, luminous colors against a dark background, it has a very dramatic, luxurious feel to it.
I highly recommend embroidering this pattern onto a deep-colored velvet cushion cover. Think of rich jewel tones like emerald green, deep sapphire blue, or a heavy burgundy.
The luxurious sheen of the velvet mixed with the bright, delicate texture of the embroidery thread creates a truly stunning, vintage aesthetic.
It will absolutely be the most eye-catching piece on your sofa. It is a wonderful way to add a bold, artistic touch to your home.
The Red Mushroom Caps – Long & Short Stitch
We needed the red mushrooms to look incredibly plump, and we needed to capture a subtle color gradient. The Long & Short Stitch is the only technique that can handle this.
You will use this stitch to blend the fiery red thread smoothly down into the soft beige at the bottom of the cap. By staggering the length of your stitches, the colors melt into each other without any harsh lines. It gives the caps a beautifully rounded, three-dimensional form that looks totally natural.
The Grey Fan-Shaped Caps & Stems – Straight Stitch & Stem Stitch
To contrast the smooth red caps, we need the grey, fan-shaped mushrooms to look sharp and highly textured. We use a combination of the Stem Stitch and Straight Stitch here.
First, you will use the Stem Stitch to create a clean, sturdy outline around the outside of the cap. Then, you will use the Straight Stitch to draw crisp lines radiating outward from the center.
This perfectly mimics the deep ridges of the mushroom gills. Because you are stitching on a black background, every single one of these straight lines will look incredibly crisp and clean.
The Flowers & Foliage – Combination Stitching
We need the forest floor to look lush, wild, and full of different textures. This requires a fun mix of techniques.
For the golden fern leaves and the little pink buds, you can use the Long & Short Stitch again to give them a nice, full shape. For the broader, flatter leaves, the Satin Stitch is your best friend.
It fills the space quickly and leaves a smooth, shiny surface. By mixing these stitches together, you create a vibrant, deeply layered micro-ecology that is incredibly fun to stitch.

Your Questions,
Answered!
We get a lot of great questions from our wonderful community of stitchers. Here are some of the most common ones, answered straight from our hearts!
1. Is this pattern right for me? I'm a bit nervous!
We hear you, and our answer is always: absolutely! We believe embroidery should be about joy, not stress. That’s why you’ll find patterns here for every skill level.
Just starting out? Head over to our ‘Beginner’ section. We’ve designed those projects to build your confidence, one stitch at a time.
But here’s a little secret from us to you: the “best” pattern is simply the one that makes your heart sing. As long as you choose a design you truly love, you’ll be amazed at what you can create.
2. Can I sell the beautiful things I make from your patterns?
We’re so honored you’d even ask! The magic you create with your hands is all yours to keep or to give as a heartfelt gift. Think of our patterns as a recipe from our kitchen to yours—for your personal use only.
This means that while you can stitch our designs onto anything your heart desires for yourself, reselling the digital pattern or the finished physical piece isn’t permitted.
This helps us protect the livelihood of our small studio and keep designing more patterns for you to enjoy.
3. I've bought a pattern! Where do I find it?
Hooray! The exciting part begins. Getting your files is as easy as pie. You’ll find the download link right on your confirmation page after checkout.
We also pop an email over to you with that same link, so you can always find it later. (If you don’t see it, sometimes it likes to hide in the spam folder!)
4. Can I really just print this at home?
You bet! We’ve designed our PDFs to be super printer-friendly.
For the sharpest, clearest lines, we suggest printing at “Actual Size” or “100%” in your printer settings.
This ensures the design comes out exactly the size we intended, ready for you to trace.
5. What is included in the embroidery pattern?
Think of it as your digital treasure chest! Each download is packed with goodies, typically including the printable pattern itself, our personal stitch suggestions, and the exact DMC color codes we used.
6. What if I change my mind? (Refunds)
Because our patterns are instant digital downloads, they’re a bit like a song you’ve downloaded—once it’s on your device, it’s yours forever. For this reason, all sales are final, so refunds are not available.
But please know, your happiness is everything to us. If you ever hit a snag with a file or have a question, please, please reach out. We’re always here to help you on your creative journey.
7. What if I can’t open the downloaded file?
Don’t panic! This usually has a simple fix. Try opening the file on a desktop or laptop computer first, using a standard PDF reader like the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If it’s still being stubborn, just send us a message. We’ll get you sorted out.
8. Can I make the pattern bigger or smaller?
Of course! That’s the beauty of digital patterns. You can easily resize it in your printer settings.
A little pro-tip from EverCraftsHub: if you’re making a big change in size, it’s always a good idea to print a small test version first, just to make sure you’re happy with how the lines look.
