A Quiet Corner of the Woods
The whole idea behind this piece was to capture one specific, tranquil corner of nature. I didn’t want a loud, busy forest scene. I wanted something soft and focused.
I chose this soft-hued parasol mushroom as the focal point because it has such a fantastic, three-dimensional shape. I spent a lot of time thinking about how to capture the natural color shifts on the cap and the stem.
I didn’t want it to look flat or cartoonish. By mixing different techniques, I was able to create a surface that actually mimics the authentic texture of a wild mushroom.
To make sure our little protagonist didn’t look lonely, I added all these different plant forms around the base. The mix of flowers and foliage adds so much intricate texture.
